Tiger numbers are increasing in Bardiya National Park, Nepal

The number of Tigers in Bardiya national Park has surged dramatically since 2013, according to a new survey conducted by park officials. They claimed that the number of adult tigers in the park figured at around 70 now, with 13 cubs being observed during the survey. The survey team of Bardiya Natiolan Park team says they have found increase in the number of tigers in the areas around the Karnali and Babai river banks buffer zone.

Tiger sightings have become commonplace in the park and buffer zone in adjoining Neulapur, Suryapatuwa and Khata wildlife corridors, according into the local people. ‘Tigers could be observed on a daily basis at Khata corridor and Shiva community forest’ Said local resident Krishna Pariyar of Dhodari 9. The number of domestic tourists has increased by two fold and that 60 percent foreigner increase than last year.  Over 968km square area are regarded as suitable habitats for the big cat ‘tiger’, but poaching remains a big challenge. An injured stripped tiger named Namo Buddha, which was trans-furred to Babai form Chitwan National Park three years ago, was poached, while another tiger also transferred from chitwan National Park last year is out of contact and signal lost.
